The form and decorative motif on this watch typifies watches made at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The engraver most likely took its leafy imagery from pattern books such as those published by Michel Le Blon. This watch has an applied silver band and a hatched border. The band is engraved with flowering vines that surround reclining make and female figures. The gilt brass dial plate is engraved with a basket from which sprout vines the wind around the dial to a reclining female figure at the top. The silver chapter ring surrounds a scene of a townscape and riverbank with boats.
